Last week, the Federal Aviation Administration warned the airline industry of a critical shortage of air traffic controllers impacting major airports in and around New York City including JFK, LaGuardia and Newark. The FAA advised airlines to reduce the number of flights by flying larger planes that can accommodate more travelers. Airlines have until the end of the month to determine their next steps. While the FAA hopes this strategy will avoid summer travel disruptions, travelers planning on visiting New York this summer should be prepared for the possibility that flight disruptions and cancellations may happen.
